Creative Website Designs

Designing a website is all about creativity. The challenge for web designers is to come up with new and innovative ways to present information on the web, whether it's through the layout of the pages, the use of graphics and images, or the overall design theme.

In order to be successful, a website designer needs to be creative and have a good sense of what will appeal to visitors. Let's take a look at some components that make up a creative site.
Table of Contents

what is a creative website

A creative website is one that features unique content, design, or functionality. Creative websites stand out from the crowd and can be used to promote a brand, products, or services. They are often used by artists, designers, and businesses to showcase their creativity and attract attention. No matter what industry you’re in, sometimes going against the grain can be the best way to get noticed.

how to come up with creative website ideas

If you’re looking for some inspiration for your next website project, here are a few ideas to get you started. Let’s start with a tried and true, searching other websites in your industry. The website Awwwards is a great place to start. They showcase the best websites in a variety of industries and categories.

Of course, the majority of these websites were created by the best of the best designers in the industry so they can be a bit daunting. But that’s okay! We can learn from them and use their designs as inspiration for our own. Just because someone else has already done something doesn’t mean you can’t do it too, and make it even better.

Keep in mind that you don’t have to recreate an entire website that you like, sometimes just a section or a specific element can be enough to get your creative juices flowing. If you see something you like, ask yourself why you like it and how you can incorporate that into your own design.

If it’s not necessarily the design that you’re interested in, but the content or functionality, that’s perfectly fine too. Creative websites don’t have to be based on their designs alone, interactivity and animations can make a website just as creative.

User experience is also a huge factor in creativity. If you can make a website that is not only visually appealing but easy to use and navigate, that’s an amazing feat. After all, the point of a website is to be used by people so making it user-friendly should be a top priority.

creative website templates

If you want to build your own site but don’t want to spend the time learning code, Squarespace or WordPress, sometimes a website template can be a great starting point. There are a lot of great design templates out there that can save you time and still allow you to put your own spin on things.

Of course there are also drawbacks to using a design template. For one, you’re not the only person using that template so your website might end up looking similar to someone else’s. And two, you’re limited to the functionality that the template provides. But if you’re just starting out and want to get a feel for things, templates can be a great way to go.

Once you have a general idea of what you want your website to look like, it’s time to start thinking about the content. What are you going to say? What are your goals for the website? This is where a lot of people get stuck but it doesn’t have to be complicated.

Design& Structure: The Creative Website Layout

The layout of your website will be determined by the type of content you want to include. If you’re planning on having a lot of text, you’ll want to make sure the design is easy to read and doesn’t feel cluttered.

On the other hand, if you’re hoping to showcase a lot of visuals, like photos or videos, you’ll want to make sure the design is clean and organized so that your content can really shine.

And if you’re planning on having a mix of both, you’ll need to find a balance between the two. The important thing is to think about your content first and then design around that.

Here are a few examples of different types of content and how they can be incorporated into the design:

website text

If you’re planning on having a lot of text, make sure the design is easy to read. Use typography to create hierarchy and contrast. And consider using whitespace to break up the text and make it more digestible.

unique images

If you want to showcase a lot of visuals, make sure the design is clean and organized. Images can be used to create hierarchy and contrast. And using a grid system can help to keep things tidy.

video content

Videos are a great way to add interactivity to your site. They can be used to tell a story or show off a product. And they can be incorporated into the design in a number of ways.

user interactivity

Adding interactivity to your site can make it more engaging and fun for visitors. There are a number of ways to do this, from using animation to incorporating quizzes and more.

popups

Popups are a great way to grab attention and get people to take action. They can be used to promote a product, sign up for a newsletter, or just about anything else.

The important thing to remember is that there is no wrong way to be creative. The goal is to have fun and experiment. So don’t be afraid to try something new. The worst that can happen is that it doesn’t work out. And even then, you’ll learn from the experience and revise to get better.

How To Design and Build Your Own Creative Website

There are a few essentials these days to any live website. The two main ones for every site are going to web hosting services and a domain name. For example, this website is hosted through Siteground web services and I also purchased the domain name through them.

Think of web hosting as the fuel to your website car and the domain name as the license plate. Your web hosting is what keeps everything running while the domain name is how people find you on the internet.

There are a ton of web hosting services out there but my personal favorite is Siteground. I’ve been using them for years to host all of my websites. One of the main reasons that I prefer siteground is that they do automatic backups of my website, security and have WordPress included in their packages.

Once you have a domain name and a web hosting package, you’ll need some kind of CMS (content management system) unless you know how to write code. Popular CMS services include WordPress, SquareSpace and Wix. I personally use WordPress for all my websites because it’s the most versatile for my needs (everyone has a different opinion of course).

Now that you have a domain name, web hosting and a CMS, you can start building out your website. If you’re using WordPress, there are two ways to do this. You can either use their pre-made themes or you can code your own custom theme.

I prefer to build my own custom theme because it gives me more control over the design and functionality of my website. However, if you’re just starting out, using a pre-made theme is perfectly fine. In fact, it might be better because it’s easier and less time consuming.

Once you have your theme ready to go, it’s time to start adding content. This is where most people get stuck because they’re not sure what to write about. The important thing is to just start writing and see where it takes you. The more you write, the easier it will become and the better you’ll become at it.

One thing to keep in mind is that your website should be designed with your audience in mind. What are they interested in? What are their needs? How can you help them? Keep these things in mind as you write and design your website and you’ll be on the right track.
