Animation studios talk. They charge you for this talking. By hiring a freelance animator (from anywhere around the world), you will certainly save costs. When you hire a studio you end up paying for their lighting, heating, and office space.

Freelancers cut out the cost of the middle people with powerful flexibility.

Animation FAQs

Here is some commonly searched information to consider when hiring an animation designer.

How to Hire an Animator

When you’re looking for a 2d animator, the best place to start is by searching online. There are many websites that allow you to post your project and receive bids from freelancers. One of the popular ones is Upwork, there are also budget options such as Fiverr which can be a great place to find freelancers who are just starting out.

When posting your project, be sure to include as much detail as possible so that you can get accurate bids and proposals (more on variables to cost and what to post below).

Another option is to search for animators on social media platforms like Twitter and LinkedIn. You can also try searching for “2d animation” or “hand-drawn animation” groups on Facebook. Personally, I’ve found that a good chunk of animators tend to hang out on platforms like Instagram and other sites that will host their animation portfolio. This tends to eliminate the need for the artists to need to know how to build and manage their own website. Once you find some animators that you’re interested in, you can reach out to them directly to see if they’re available. I always recommend including more detail upfront, even if you think it might not be necessary. The more specific you are with your project, the less back and fourth is needed for asking about colors, dimensions, design ideas you like, etc.

About Animation Studios

Hiring an animation studio can be great if you need 3D, complex and even character development. These projects can require more time, skill and overall power behind them. Studios usually have a team of people who can take on different parts of the animation process from design to voice-overs and marketing.

What Are The Benefits of Hiring a 2D Animator

Some of the benefits of hiring a 2d animator for your project are cost savings. You can get high-quality animations at a fraction of the cost of hiring an animation studio by cutting out the extra noise. You also don’t have to worry about the animator’s availability, since most freelancers work remotely. Of course you will have to take into account that some animators that you find online will have a queue of projects already lined up so starting times may vary.

How To Find The Best Animator For Your Project

When you’re looking for a 2d animator, it can be tough to know where to start. There are so many freelancers out there, it can be hard to know who what type of project you need to hire for.

The best way to find a 2d animator for your project is to first figure out what you need. Do you need someone to create a character moving around or do you need someone to create a looping GIF animation? Do you need someone to do the traditional hand-drawn style, or are you okay with someone using custom shapes and icons to create the animation?

Once you know what you need, you can start looking for freelancers who specialize in that area.

Hiring a motion graphics designer

2d Animators are also sometimes called Motion Graphics Designers.

Motion graphics are typically created using software like Adobe After Effects to create custom 2d animations and overlays. These graphics can be used to explain a concept or bring a logo or product to life. Personally, some of my favorite types of motion graphics to create include website icon animations, infographic animations and similarly-design concepts.

How Much Does Hiring an Animator Cost?

When considering the cost of hiring a 2d animator, there are a few key factors that will affect the price. Some of these items include:

The answer to this question is going to vary on a number of items, some of which include the scope of the project, the experience and skill level of the animator, and whether or not you require a hand-drawing illustrator, storyboard artist or entire studio to work with. Generally speaking you can expect to pay $50-$100/hour for a good 2d animator.

Hiring an animation studio will of course cost more and a few of the reasons for this are that they have more people working on a project, they have more expensive equipment and they often work with larger companies. If you are looking for a high-quality, well-rounded animation that meets all of your specific requirements, you can expect to pay a studio anywhere from $5,000-$50,000 for a single project.

The best way to get an accurate quote is to reach out to a few different animators or studios and provide any information about your project that you might have.
